Prologue

Technology is magic. At least, it used to be.
Today we tap on glass screens, talk to machines, and send thoughts halfway across the world in seconds.
But what if all this isn't progress, but just the rediscovery of something ancient? Something we were supposed to forget. Or had to.
This is the story of Mira Voss. A teenager who never asked to be caught in the crossfire of a war raging in the shadows of the real world.
Of a girl who understood technology – and had to learn that some codes contained more than just programs.
Release 2026
Available directly as an e-book download.

Important Release Information
Dear Readers,
Unfortunately, the planned release of MIRA on March 5, 2026, cannot take place.
For health reasons, I am currently unable to handle the tasks associated with a publication. Since I am personally responsible for every step – from organization and communication to technical implementation – I can and will only proceed with a release when I can focus on it completely.
I am aware that there have already been several delays. I do not make this decision lightly, but out of responsibility towards you and the project. Publishing means more than just providing a book – it requires presence, energy, and full attention. I want to be able to guarantee all of that.
I will only announce a new firm date when it is absolutely certain that nothing else will interfere. You will receive the specific release date at least two weeks in advance.
As a token of my appreciation for your patience, the pre-order price is reduced from €17.99 to €12.99.
All readers who have already pre-ordered will be informed separately and will, of course, be refunded the difference of €5.00.
Thank you for your understanding, your patience, and your support during this special phase.
Yours,
Christian
Mira Voss
The Glitch in the System
Mira seeks refuge in silence and technology. Since her father's fatal accident, the school's old workshop has been her only retreat. She fixes things to avoid thinking about what is broken in her own life.
But Mira is suddenly thrown out of her isolated and shielded life. A flicker in the air, a figure that doesn't seem quite real. When a battle in the empty schoolyard shatters her reality, her smartphone, of all things, becomes the key to a hidden world.
With a sassy AI named L.U.X. by her side, Mira must rise above herself to face the dangers from the magical world of Mirrith.
Mirrith
A World Full of Ancient Magic
Mirrith is not a simulation. It is a living, magical world that exists parallel to ours – wild, dangerous, and full of ancient power. Once, both worlds were closely intertwined until they were violently separated.
But the barriers are weakening. The legends of old are returning, not as fairy tales, but as a physical threat. Technology and magic collide.
The Shards of Mirrith that have been freed threaten this world, and now Mira's world as well.

Chapter 1 – Shards in the Light (Excerpt)
The workshop smelled of old wood, oil, and dust. Mr. Jakobi sat at a wobbly table, an unscrewed intercom in front of him.
"Can you pass me the pliers, the ones with the red handle?" he asked without looking up.
Mira reached into the toolbox and handed them to him wordlessly.
Mr. Jakobi, the janitor, radiated a calmness rarely found in teachers and adults. No chatter, no excessive questions. Just quiet. She needed that. Here, she was just Mira. Not the girl with the dead father. Not the student whose ideas were ridiculed in class.
"Skipping gym class again," he said quietly as he connected the fine wires.
Mira shrugged.
"So? Nobody notices anyway."
Jakobi looked at her, his brown eyes friendly, his expression serious.
"Sometimes you need a break. But eventually, you have to get out. Out of yourself. You are stronger than you think, Mira."
She bit her lip.
"Dad... is gone. For six months. What's the point?"
The janitor nodded understandingly, without judgment.
"Sometimes you think life stops when something terrible happens. But it goes on. In strange ways."
Mira sighed. She didn't need any more explanations or hollow-sounding encouragement.
"Thanks, Mr. Jakobi. I have to go, or I'll be late for the last period."
She stood up and pulled her hoodie tighter around herself. It was chilly outside, the sky gray and heavy. In the hallway, she grabbed her jacket and pushed her earbud into her ear. Music was her shield against the world.
On the way to the schoolyard, she pulled her smartphone out of her pocket and opened the notes app. She had saved a photo of an old newspaper article.
"Traffic accident claims a life – driver crashes in heavy rain" was written there in large letters.
The article was from six months ago. Right next to it was another, smaller report:
"Unexplained events in the city – lights in the sky and missing persons cause speculation."
Mira stared at it, her fingers gripping the phone tighter. Her gaze went blank – not focused on the screen, but looking far, far back.
She remembered a spring afternoon. Her father had managed to pick her up from school. She was six years old, had finally managed to ride her bike without help, and he had shown her a device he built himself that played music from her MP3 player via Bluetooth through small, hidden speakers on the handlebars. His invention – "VossCast 1.0," he had explained, flashing that mischievous look. He was a dreamer, a tinkerer, a father who saw the magic in the everyday.
"Everything is connected, Mira," he had said, pointing to her heart.
"Some connections you can't see. But they are there."
She had laughed and nodded without understanding – but now it resonated within her like an echo.
The moment shattered; another memory forced its way in. Rain. Flashing blue lights. The living room clock had stopped. The police officer stepped in, her jacket wet, her voice serious. Her mother had just nodded, quiet, composed, almost numb. Her little brother was already asleep, and Mira had just sat there. Without a word, without a sound. A part of her had died in that moment.
She blinked, and the screen came back into focus. Her fingers trembled slightly, but she put the phone back in her pocket and brushed a strand of hair aside. Since the accident six months ago, she hadn't let anyone cut her long brown hair. It fell over her forehead like a shield, a boundary to the world.
The schoolyard was empty. Only a few leaves danced in the wind. The quiet had a calming effect on Mira. Inside the classrooms, there was only noise and crowding. She kept walking, her steps echoing softly on the asphalt.
A moment later, she stopped. A strange sound vibrated through the air – dull, electrifying. Something wasn't right here.
Ahead of her, barely twenty meters away in the yard, stood two men. One – tall, wearing a long dark coat. The other was a distorted figure – his body blurred, unable to be fully present. For a moment, Mira saw that he was wearing a black cloak covered in a strange, ever-changing pattern. A symbol was emblazoned in the center – impossible to make out clearly. It flickered as if burned into the fabric fibers. Eerie. Alien.
Her breath hitched. The yard was deserted; everyone was in class. Her feet no longer obeyed her; they were nailed down by fear. The air vibrated around the men, shimmering with invisible tension.
